Registered Nurse (RN), Night Shift, Trauma Surgical Department
UC Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the trauma surgical department for the Day Shift, 7 AM-7:30 PM at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. This unit consists of patient populations from many specialized surgical teams. Our patient population is admitted from the ER, SICU and PACU. Nursing care for the Trauma patient is concentrated around recovering from traumatic injury with focus on mobility, patient education, monitoring intake and outputs and pain management. Our surgical specialties include ENT and urology who are consistently nationally ranked by U.News & World Report.
Trauma: UCMC is the area's only Adult Level 1 Trauma Center in the region. Urology: Surgeries and procedures related to urological cancer or other diseases, which may include treatment of prostate issues, urostomies, urinary diversions, among many other procedures.

Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Clinical reasoning coupled with nursing skills acquired through experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines. Collects basic level data Follows protocols with all populations and does not deviate from them. Works on another's behalf and represents the concerns of the patient/family and nursing staff. Serves as a moral agent in identifying and helping to resolve ethical and clinical concerns. Nursing activities that create a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff which includes vigilance, engagement, and responsiveness of caregivers. Base care on standards and protocols. Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching the patient/ family to understand condition medications, and self-care skills and answering questions. Works with others (e.g. patients, care providers) to encourage each person's contribution toward achieving optimal patient goals. Participates in discussion regarding patient care and/or practice issues. Maintains cooperative relationship with multidisciplinary care team, remains open to team member's contributions.

Provides data to increase patient's understanding. Focuses on a nurse's perspective and sees the patient as a passive recipient.

Implements clinical changes and research-based practices developed by others. Recognizes the need for further learning to improve patient care. Needs and seeks help to identify patient problem.

Associate Degree from an accredited school of Nursing (ASN)Preferred: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of Nursing (BSN). |Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. For employees working in UCMC Psychiatric Services, NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire. | No experience required.
