Under the general direction of the Security Manager, the Security Officer protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises and patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. Secures, unlocks, and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security needs of the hospital personnel, patients, and visitors. Participates in performance improvement activities. Protect life and property of all persons on hospital premises.

Deescalate all potentially tense situations and immediately contact local police before any physical altercations.

Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism; Secure, lock, and protect hospital buildings and grounds.

Assist hospital staff in de-escalation of tense situations and support the safety of staff.

Ensure only authorized persons are admitted onto hospital property; Serve as a member of the emergency response team and respond to codes appropriately.

Report all safety and fire hazards, investigate incidents of unusual circumstances, and report all incidents to supervisor.

Support all fire, life safety, and emergency management drills and education initiatives.

Document incident reports accurately and timely; Respond quickly to all areas of the hospital.

Successfully complete hospital and department‑specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements in a timely manner.

Manage access control at various entrances by ensuring all staff, patients, visitors, and vendors are authorized for entry.

Assist with the operation of security systems: CCTV, access control, and incident reporting.

Assist in maintaining regulatory requirements, including state and federal regulations.

Remain keenly alert at all times, alerting all employees and patients to possible threats or situations requiring immediate attention.

Two to five (2‑5) years of experience in law enforcement, security operations, or a related field; Use or possession of a firearm or other weapons is prohibited.

Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures and protocols preferred.

Ability to obtain state‑required security officer credentials, as needed.

Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

Basic computer knowledge and skills required; experience with Microsoft Office preferred.

Strong customer service skills.

Participation in performance improvement activities.

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold or heat (non‑weather), blood‑borne pathogens, toxic or caustic chemicals, dust or other irritants, grease or oils, infectious/contagious diseases, cleaning agents, hot or noisy equipment, humid or wet conditions, and noise levels.
