Speech Language Specialist / SLP

Transform Lives Through Communication in the Charms of Iowa – Become a Speech Language Specialist

Imagine a career where every word you help someone express carries profound significance. As a Speech Language Specialist in one of Iowa's welcoming communities, you do more than manage communication and swallowing challenges; you are the catalyst for building confidence, unlocking potential, and fostering connections among individuals of all ages. From energetic toddlers discovering their initial vocal sounds to seniors rekindling their independence, your influence will resonate far beyond the clinic.

This position provides a remarkable chance to touch the lives of a diverse clientele spanning the lifespan, all within a balanced framework that includes outpatient therapy while occasionally providing inpatient support. Whether your enthusiasm is sparked by nurturing the speech of young children, addressing adult neurological disorders, or aiding the elderly with cognitive-linguistic rehabilitation, you'll find personal satisfaction and professional flexibility in this role.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments for patients across pediatric, adult, and geriatric age groups utilizing standardized tools and observational techniques.
  • Create tailored treatment plans that cater to immediate objectives and long-term communication, cognitive, or swallowing aspirations.
  • Implement individualized speech therapy interventions focusing on language, speech, fluency, voice, and swallowing rehabilitation.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, physicians, families, and caregivers to ensure comprehensive care strategies.
  • Provide education to patients and their families to encourage continued progress beyond clinical sessions.
  • Support inpatient therapy assessments and interventions to maintain seamless care throughout the therapeutic process.
  • Ensure timely, precise documentation that adheres to all state, federal, and organizational standards.
  • Stay informed about the latest best practices in the field through continuing professional education and collaborative peer interactions.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) is required if not yet ASHA-certified.

Certifications

  • Active state licensure as a Speech Language Specialist.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first month of employment.

Essential Skills

  • Expertise in evidence-based treatment methodologies for patients of all ages, with a keen awareness of developmental and acquired speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal communication ability with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to adjust therapy strategies to accommodate different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Exceptional clinical judgment and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in navigating electronic medical records and adhering to documentation protocols.

Perks of the Position

  • Attractive salary reflecting your experience and expertise.
  • Flexible scheduling to support your work-life equilibrium and diversify your caseload.
  • Opportunities to specialize in pediatrics, adult neuro rehab, or geriatric services.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) in addition to holiday compensation.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
  • Financial support for continuing education and advancement opportunities.
  • A collaborative work environment focused on providing exceptional care and fostering lifelong learning.

A Career Filled with Purpose and Potential

Your role as a Speech Language Specialist transcends traditional therapy; it positions you within a community-rich framework dedicated to restoring voices, enhancing communication, and sharing joyful moments through the fundamental acts of understanding and connection.

Join a team where clinicians are treated like family, in a workplace that celebrates cooperation rather than competition. Every patient brings a unique narrative, and we trust you to help articulate that story.
