Job Description Summary The Curator of Education and Community Engagement will develop, coordinate, and implement educational programming and community engagement initiatives for RCCAM and provide support for McGuffey House and Museum. Primary responsibilities include: planning and facilitating educational programs, cultivating campus and community partnerships, coordinating outreach initiatives, and supporting meaningful visitor experiences that connect audiences with the museum’s exhibitions and collections. As RCCAM is embarking on a significant renovation project, the Curator of Education and Community Engagement will work closely with the Museum Director, the Curator of Exhibitions, and the Museum’s Docent Corps, in implementing a major transformation of the education department in preparation for the re-opening in the Fall of 2027. Job Description Essential Duties Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for diverse audiences, including university classes, university groups, community groups, K-12 students, and local and regional community members. Serve as the primary point of contact for scheduling and coordinating tours, class visits, and educational group experiences. Collaborate with faculty, student organizations, and campus partners to design and deliver programs that align with curricular and co-curricular goals. Cultivate and maintain relationships with local schools, community organizations, and regional partners to expand museum outreach and participation. Identify and pursue opportunities for community engagement, including off-site programming and partnerships that extend the museum’s presence beyond campus. Coordinate and facilitate public programs such as workshops, lectures, gallery talks, and special events in support of exhibitions and collections. Create educational materials and interpretive resources, including lesson plans, activity sheets, and program content that enhance visitor engagement. Train, schedule, and support docents, student educators, and volunteers involved in tours and public programming. Work collaboratively across museum departments to align educational programming and lesson plans with exhibitions, collections, and institutional priorities. Track and report participation in educational programs and outreach efforts; conduct periodic analysis of audience engagement and demographics to inform planning and improve impact. Assist with marketing and communications efforts related to education and engagement initiatives, including contributing content for newsletters, social media, and promotional materials. Maintain program calendars, schedules, and related documentation to ensure effective coordination and communication. Assist with planning and execution of events and use of museum spaces, coordinating with internal staff and external partners. Support grant-related activities for education and outreach initiatives, including data collection and reporting as needed. Order and maintain supplies for educational programming and outreach activities. Ensure all education and engagement processes are well-documented and consistently followed. Represent the museum at campus and community events, serving as an ambassador for programs and initiatives. Sustain working knowledge of museum field best practices and maintain American Alliance of Museums standards related to education and public engagement. Serve as advisor for the Art Museum Student Organization (AMSO), and lead sustainable activities developed by AMSO studentofficers. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Art Education or a related field required. A minimum of 2 years working in Art Education, Museums, and Public Programming. Consideration may be given to candidates with 4 years experience working in a Museum Education position; experience developing curriculum and/or educational materials; experience working with diverse audiences; experience supervising students and docents/volunteers; team-building skills with a collaborative management style; familiarity with CRM systems and program tracking tools; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends; ability to perform essential job functions that require mobility within the facility; basic computer proficiency (email, Google Suite, or Microsoft Office).
