Payroll Accountant / Payroll Specialist

We're looking for a Payroll Accountant / Payroll Specialist to own multi-state payroll operations and serve as a trusted resource for payroll, tax, and compliance matters. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented payroll professional who enjoys solving complex challenges, improving processes, and partnering with Finance, Accounting, and HR teams.

What You'll Do

• Process accurate and timely multi-state payroll, including salaries, hourly wages, bonuses, and adjustments.
• Maintain employee payroll records, deductions, garnishments, and compensation changes.
• Reconcile payroll reports and support payroll accounting, accruals, and month-end close activities.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Manage state withholding and unemployment registrations, filings, and audits.
• Oversee workers' compensation programs, reporting, renewals, and compliance across multiple states.
• Act as the go-to resource for payroll-related questions from employees and internal stakeholders.
• Support and optimize payroll systems, including Rippling and similar platforms.

What You Bring

• 4+ years of payroll experience , including multi-state payroll processing and compliance.
• Strong payroll accounting experience, including reconciliations and journal entries.
• Knowledge of payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience managing workers' compensation, state withholding, and unemployment programs.
• Proficiency with Rippling, Workday Payroll, or similar payroll systems.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
• Exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related field preferred.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Redwood City, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
