Temporary Instructional Support Technician - Physics Job No: 558886 Work Type: Staff Location: Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo Campus Categories: Unit 9 - CSUEU - Technical Support Services, Temporary, Full Time, Education Support Professionals, On-site Job Summary The primary function of the Instructional Support Technician II is to provide technical and advisory support for physics laboratory courses and student/faculty research projects and assist with demonstration equipment. Under general supervision, the incumbent prepares laboratories for instruction, including equipment installation, maintenance, minor repair, and modification, employing a comprehensive knowledge of both scientific and technical principles. This is a full‑time temporary 6‑month + 1 day position and is eligible for full benefits, including medical, dental, vision and CalPERS retirement. Key Qualifications Thorough knowledge of instructional support services in a related technical discipline. Extensive knowledge of physics, laboratory techniques, and suitability of materials for instructional needs. Ability to apply physics principles to anticipate instructional needs, adapt laboratory setups, and support faculty. Judgment in evaluating quality of materials and equipment. Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to handle hazardous materials in compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements. Ability to independently operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair scientific equipment. Education and Experience Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or producing materials or repairing equipment in a related discipline. OR equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in a related discipline may substitute for one year of required experience. Or equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in such courses may substitute for two years of required experience. Salary and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,876 - $75,696 annually.
