The Accounting Manager is responsible for general ledger management, account reconciliation, cash receipts processing, depreciation and accruals, investment accounting, restricted asset releases, A/R collections, and preliminary monthly accounting cycle closing. For nearly 40 years, Allies has been providing thousands of at-risk children and their families with critical, high-quality child development and family wellness programs (including comprehensive early education and Early Head Start services), family strengthening interventions, foster care and adoption services, and a range of vital, integrated services, including mental health services, educational assessments, trauma and disabilities screenings/advocacy, nutrition services, dental and vision screenings, and pediatric health consultations. In 2024, Allies expanded its reach, serving even more children and youth in foster care and those transitioning to adulthood through Extraordinary Families, a program of Allies for Every Child. Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders Under the direction of the CFO, collaborate with leadership to develop, monitor and forecast the annual budget, and perform variance analysis Ensure compliance with GAAP, non-profit accounting standards, and federal/state regulations. Assist with the annual audit process and tax filings Monitor grant revenue and expense entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with donor restrictions Develop and maintain robust financial record keeping, reporting systems and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting Supervise, mentor, and manage accounting staff to foster a high-performance environment Develop and maintain Supervise payroll, billing, receivables, payables, cash receipts, cash disbursements, and general ledger functions Monitor and follow-up on receivables that have been outstanding for unusually long periods of time Produce monthly financial statements including balance sheet, profit/loss statements, and accumulative general ledger using a computer-based accounting system Ensure that all general ledger accounts are reconciled to subsidiary records on a monthly basis Review reconciliations to ensure that they are prepared properly and follow-up on any unusual items Monitor cash flow and investments Oversee filing of tax forms including 1099s, IRS pension report Oversee, in conjunction with independent auditor, preparation of annual audit Reconcile bank and investment accounts, and prepares related journal entries Supervise preparation of invoices Execute transactions of pension and tax deferred annuity plan deposits Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer In accordance with our “team” philosophy, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field Minimum of five (5) years’ working experience within accounting or finance including 5 years of non-profit experience a must Previous cost allocation, complex budget (at least $15 million in revenue), complicated general ledger (has managed multiple locations, multiple departments, multiple projects) and analysis experience required. Non-profit and/or grant experience; experience with an understanding of Federal & State funding awards, cost reimbursement funding and familiarity with regulations (OMB, A-133 audits) High degree of knowledge regarding payroll and accounting software, Accufund, a plus Intermediate level proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel and Word Solid written and verbal communication skills, ability to pay attention to detail and maintain confidentiality Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to working with a diverse staff are essential to successfully carry out the duties of this position Flexibility and availability to work extended weekday(s) (month, quarter, annual close and audit), as well as availability to travel to varying local sites Must be responsible, be able to handle confidential information, organize effectively, and work independently Passionate about learning and possesses curiosity about issues affecting children and families All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children and families who are served by our agency Fingerprint background clearance (DOJ, FBI & Child Abuse Clearance Index), or approved exemption Successful completion of pre-employment physical and PPD test/ risk assessment, proof of immunizations for pertussis (Tdap), measles (MMR) and influenza (can decline) Class “C” driver’s license, proof of insurance, a safety record acceptable to CAA, and reliable transportation required Pay Range: $95,000 – $105,000 annual (In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this California position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.)
