Position Overview

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, espresso beverages, teas, and light food offerings while delivering exceptional guest service in a luxury hospitality environment. This role creates a welcoming and engaging experience for guests through product knowledge, attention to detail, and personalized service. The Barista supports daily cafe operations while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, and service excellence consistent with Monarch standards.

What You'll Do

• Greet guests warmly and professionally, creating a welcoming environment.
• Provide attentive, personalized service while anticipating guest needs.
• Answer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, and beverage offerings.
• Make recommendations based on guest preferences and dietary considerations.
• Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally or escalate issues to leadership as needed.
• Maintain a positive and engaging guest experience throughout every interaction.
• Prepare espresso-based beverages, brewed coffee, teas, and specialty drinks according to established recipes and presentation standards.
• Ensure consistency in beverage quality, taste, and appearance.
• Prepare and serve pastries, grab-and-go items, and other cafe offerings as applicable.
• Monitor beverage quality and ensure products are served at appropriate temperatures.
• Maintain knowledge of menu items, seasonal offerings, and promotional products.
• Accurately process guest orders through the POS system.
• Handle cash, credit card transactions, and other payment methods according to company procedures.
• Maintain accountability for cash banks and transaction accuracy.
• Assist with opening and closing cash handling procedures as assigned.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of cafe, service areas, equipment, and seating areas.
• Restock supplies, beverages, cups, condiments, and merchandise as needed.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs to management.
• Assist with receiving and storing deliveries according to company standards.
• Ensure proper operation and basic maintenance of espresso machines, coffee brewers, grinders, and related equipment.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards.
• Adhere to health department regulations and company policies.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment for guests and team members.
• Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
• Work collaboratively with cafe team members and other hotel departments.
• Participate in training sessions, team meetings, and ongoing development opportunities.
• Support other Food & Beverage outlets as needed during high-volume periods.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support hotel operations.
• Maintain reliable and consistent attendance as an essential function of the role.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous barista, coffee shop, cafe, restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred.
• Experience preparing espresso-based beverages preferred.
• Experience in a luxury hotel, resort, or upscale food and beverage environment preferred.

Other Qualifications

• Food Handler Certification required.
• TABC Certification preferred or ability to obtain.
