Materials Manager

Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant’s overall business plans and objectives as directed.**What you'll be doing:*** Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment.* Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment. This includes correcting unsafe acts/conditions, participating in monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required.* Supports and follows the SQF (Safe Quality Food System) guidelines of the food safety system.* Follows company policies, standard operating procedures (SOP), practices and Sonoco’s Global Code of Conduct.* Assists in identifying and developing qualified suppliers that can ensure exceptional quality, delivery and cost reductions.* Sources and procures products and services.* Coordinates production and delivery requirements to meet operating needs.* Assists with negotiations with suppliers and works with manager to make final procurement decision.* Resolves procurement issues in a fair and ethical manner.* Works with accounting and suppliers to resolve invoicing issues.* Maintains and updates database on suppliers and items used in one or more operations.* Manages expediting activities through supplier contacts, and track material receipts.* Processes return material transactions and works with suppliers to get errors corrected.* May take physical inventory of inventoried items on a monthly basis and cost the inventory. May monitor warehousing inventory at multiple locations. May participate in inventory accuracy programs i.e. cycle counts.* Manages ODM inventory.
