Job Opportunity – Pediatric PeriAnesthesia RN – Virginia

Start Date: September 14, 2026

Location: Central Virginia

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Night shift, 13-week assignment, every other weekend and every other holiday rotation

Highlights:

• Specialized 10-bed pediatric preoperative and postoperative unit with additional 4-bed Pediatric Surgical Observation Unit
• Work with a comprehensive multidisciplinary support team including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, and Rapid Response Teams
• Epic charting system experience required
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Up to 40 hours of approved time off available during the contract period
• 24 hours of orientation provided

Requirements:

• Active Virginia RN license or pending (must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Experience with 4:1 patient ratios
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Epic charting system proficiency required
• BSN preferred
• Must reside outside 50-mile radius from facility
• Flu vaccination required (no exemptions)

Clinical Skills and Expertise:

• Pediatric PACU, Phase I and Phase II recovery experience
• Management of pediatric patients across all age groups: infants, pediatrics, and adolescents
• Proficiency in airway assessment, placement of oral/nasal airways, and emergency medications
• Experience with arterial line management, central line care, IV vasopressors, and blood product administration
• Pain assessment and management, procedural sedation administration and monitoring
• Pre/post operative procedures, discharge instructions, and family-centered education
• Specialized procedures including ENT, orthopedic, general surgery, and ambulatory/outpatient care
• Interpretation of lab values and arterial blood gases

Unit Overview:

This specialized unit provides comprehensive, family-centered care from preoperative preparation through postoperative recovery and extended surgical observation up to 23 hours. The Pediatric Surgical Observation Unit delivers specialized postoperative care for pediatric patients requiring overnight observation or extended recovery following surgery.

Nurses collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgery, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver individualized care, perform ongoing assessments, manage pain and recovery, provide patient and family education, and coordinate safe discharge planning.
