About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active IL License required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have level 1 trauma experience. Must have previous travel experience. Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit. Heparin drip experience required. Description: This position involves taking care of patients with a variety of neurological conditions. Patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift. Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, and head injuries. Nurse aides and patient care technicians are present on the unit, with varying ratios throughout the day. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips, specifically heparin based on PTT levels. Charge nurses are available at all times and do not typically take assignments unless necessary. Registered Nurses may float to general units but will only perform skills they are competent in if floated outside their primary unit. There are no specific scrub color requirements, though tattoos must be covered while on duty. A two-day orientation will be provided, including computer training and unit-specific information with a preceptor. Weekend work is required every other weekend, along with holidays every other as well. There is no call or standby requirement for this position.
