About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardio Thoracic Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS recommended Must-Have: EKG interpretation, medication titration, RN licensure, basic nursing skills Description: The unit includes 70 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common diagnoses include myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and various lung surgeries, including chest tube insertions and esophagectomies. Experience with EKG interpretation and medication titration is essential. Registered nurses are required to titrate drips, mainly Cardizem and heparin. A charge nurse is present 24/7, and they rarely take patient assignments. A house supervisor is available 24/7. Patient care technicians are on the unit with varying ratios, depending on the shift. Registered nurses troubleshoot CPAP and BiPAP devices, primarily for home regimens, and use heated high flow under special circumstances. The unit has telemonitoring techs, and nurses must read and interpret their own strips. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, with two options: 0700-1930 and 1900-0730. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holidays are scheduled according to a rotation. There is currently no call or standby requirement. Floating to other general medical units may occur. Scrubs may be any color, but not children or cartoon-themed prints. Unit-specific orientation is typically one shift or part of one. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position.
