Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year required License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Level 1 trauma experience Previous travel experience (no first-time travelers) Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit Heparin drip experience Description: This position involves working in a Neuro Med-Surg Acute setting. The unit comprises 54 beds, with a mixture of private and semi-private rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injuries, and other neuroscience conditions. Nurses are required to titrate drips, including a heparin titrated drip based on PTT. A charge nurse is present on each shift, who does not take an assignment unless necessary to maintain nurse-to-patient ratios. There is also a house supervisor available 24/7. Patient care techs are assigned to the unit, with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day and evening, and 1:10-12 at night. RNs are responsible for any respiratory issues that may arise but primarily troubleshoot equipment. Telemetry monitors are house-wide; nurses do not need to read the strips. Shifts consist of 12-hour schedules with a weekend requirement of every other weekend. Holidays are also mandatory every other holiday. Floating may occur, with the expectation that nurses will float to general units within competency limits. Scrubs are not provided, and any visible tattoos must be covered during duty hours.
