Duties Description The New York State Department of Health is seeking a Student Assistant to support the Adolescent Tobacco Use Prevention Act enforcement program. Under the direction of the senior staff, the Student Assistant will participate in compliance inspections of tobacco and vapor product retailers. Duties include attempting to purchase regulated products, documenting observations and inspection activities, and assisting with enforcement related records and data entry. This position requires an individual who is under 21 years of age, and proof that they are currently matriculated into a school program (high school/college/university).

Minimum Qualifications Documentation of current matriculation must be submitted with your resume.Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will be an undergraduate or graduate student interested in exploring a career in public/environmental health. They will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; problem solve effectively; have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other computer programs as needed.

Additional Comments Temporary, seasonal, non-competitive appointment opportunity. Salary determined by academic level. Hours worked and schedule are flexible and dependent upon assignment.
