Bookkeeper, Level II

POLICE DEPARTMENT

(*THIS IS ONLY OPEN TO CITY EMPLOYEES WHO ARE PERMANENT IN THE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF BOOKKEEPER*) If you have taken and passed Bookkeeper Exam 3117, please include your list number on your resume. A bookkeeper assigned to a Narcotics Boro is responsible for maintaining the overall command’s fiscal account which encompasses all Department funds issued to supervisors accounts. The position requires accounting for and documenting expense reports for funds spent during investigations. Detailed records of Department funds available, issued and expensed for are required to be kept.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Candidates must be able to process paperwork delivered from supervisors and investigators documenting multiple expenses during different investigations on the same or multiple dates. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. BOOKKEEPER - 40526

Minimum Qualifications Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including 6 credits in accounting; or A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and two years of satisfactory full‑time bookkeeping experience; or A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to option 1 or 2 above. College education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 15 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either 6 semester credits in accounting from an accredited college or 6 months of experience as described in option 2 above. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as a Bookkeeper (40526) or at least four years of satisfactory full‑time bookkeeping experience. Preferred Skills Prospective candidates must have a strong skill set in mathematics in order to maintain ledgers for accounts. Hardcopy documents and Microsoft Excel are used on a daily basis to document the movement of funds. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
