About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: MICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Acute care experience must be current and in the specialty with which they are applying - Experience with computerized charting system required Description: Registered Nurse position in a MICU setting. The unit serves adults and geriatric patients. Common diagnoses include oncologic emergencies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), gastrointestinal bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, consequences of oncologic treatment, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis. Common treatments include mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, continuous renal replacement therapy, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis. Many patients have underlying pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions requiring bronchoscopy or endoscopy. Key skills required include vent management, IV starts, infection prevention, and interpretation of arterial blood gases. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 2:1. Interdisciplinary support is provided by various services including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. This position requires strong clinical skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
