Staff Accountant

Ledgent is partnering with a valued client in the Tampa area to identify a Staff Accountant for a temp-to-hire opportunity. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting the company's day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close process, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and overall financial accuracy. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.
• Perform bank, balance sheet, and general ledger account reconciliations.
• Analyze financial data and investigate discrepancies.
• Support the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed.
• Review and reconcile intercompany transactions.
• Support external audits by gathering and preparing documentation.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiencies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional departments to resolve accounting-related issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of accounting experience in a Staff Accountant or similar role.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
• Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and formulas.
• Experience working with ERP or accounting software systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a mid-sized corporate environment.
• Exposure to financial reporting and variance analysis.
• Knowledge of ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, or similar platforms.
• Experience supporting audits and compliance initiatives.
