Sign Language Interpreter Opportunity – In-Person or Hybrid Schedule

A fantastic opportunity awaits for an enthusiastic and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students in a dynamic educational setting near Shawnee, KS. This contract role plays an important part in bridging communication for students within dedicated programs designed for those with hearing impairments and limited verbal skills. The interpreter will primarily be on-site at least four days per week, with flexibility for some hybrid days, offering vital access and engagement in the classroom.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing real-time sign language interpretation for students in a variety of academic and social settings.
• Supporting direct communication during instruction, group activities, assessments, and school events.
• Assisting with evaluations for students in the SAILS and STEPs programs.
• Collaborating with educators and specialists to ensure accessibility and effective communication strategies.
• Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.

Desired qualifications and experience:

• Prior experience (0-3 years, 4-6 years, or 7+ years) as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational environment.
• Current proficiency or certification in Sign Language Interpretation (SLI level required).
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and a passion for advocating for diverse learners.
• Experience working with students with hearing loss or those with limited or non-verbal communication abilities.
• Flexibility to work on-site at least four days per week; willingness to adapt to a hybrid model as needed.
