Step into an impactful role supporting students as an Educational Sign Language Interpreter in a vibrant school environment near Overland Park, KS. In this contract position, you’ll work directly with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as those in our innovative SAILS and STEPs programs—serving individuals with little or no verbal communication.

You’ll be on-site at least four days per week, either fully in-person or in a consistent hybrid schedule, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams. Your expertise will contribute to student evaluations and foster inclusive communication strategies within the classroom.

What you bring:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and Sign Language Interpretation in school-based settings
• SLI (Sign Language Interpreter) certification or equivalent level, required to support individual evaluation and collaborative plans
• Experience working with students who have hearing differences and/or complex communication needs
• Ability to facilitate communication in a variety of educational settings, adapting quickly to changing situations
• Professionalism, reliability, and enthusiasm for fostering student success
• Minimum of 0-3 years prior experience in educational interpreting (more experience valued)

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing clear and effective interpretation for students, staff, and families
• Supporting students in SAILS and STEPs programs, including those with limited or no verbal communication
• Navigating in-person or hybrid schedules, being on-site at least four days per week
• Contributing to evaluations and developing communication strategies alongside educational teams
• Adapting interpretation methods to diverse classroom needs and student goals
