Our Performance Improvement practice provides extensive industry expertise combined with data-driven, objective, and innovative approaches to the most complex business challenges.
Role Overview
The ideal candidate for this role is based in Chicago, New York, Boston, or Dallas, but we are open to other locations throughout the USA. The position is hybrid, with time alternating between office and remote work.
Responsibilities
- Initiates and converts business opportunities and collaborates with other Senior Managing Directors to sell and deliver engagements that generate $5 million+ annually in the Healthcare industry.
- Is ‘in the market’ to share Ankura’s broad capabilities, collect intelligence and craft approaches to solve business challenges.
- Provides guidance to the Ankura team and client regarding analytical approach and methodologies.
- Manages multiple complex initiatives and analyzes the outlook of operating concepts.
- Acts as a key facilitator of the engagement with various constituencies.
- Oversees work across multiple engagements.
- Effectively works with client and engagement team to set expectations regarding timelines that satisfy client needs and are achievable with the resources available to the engagement team.
- Engages with key constituencies as part of drafting reports to ensure the approach is consistent with external expectations.
- Provides guidance to team(s) on overall communication strategy, argument structure, and key messaging.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with senior client executives.
- Provides engagement leadership to the Ankura team and client.
- Travels 3–4 days per week for client work and business development.
Qualifications
- Minimum preferred blend of 20 years of relevant industry and consulting experience focused in Healthcare.
- Commercial leadership to drive revenue growth and capture market share.
- Track record of generating $5 million+ annually and personally billing in the $900+ / hour range (more realistic range is $600–$700).
- Strong personal brand within the industry with deep market‑making relationships across relevant corporates, private equity, law firms, and investment banks, generating a robust flow of inbound calls and bookings.
- Undergraduate degree from a top academic institution; advanced degree(s) and applicable professional certification(s) preferred.
- Expertise defining, influencing, and driving change at executive levels and across broader stakeholder communities.
- Exceptional negotiation skills in complex situations involving executive and board level stakeholders.
- Ability to develop credible recommendations under shortened time constraints and imperfect information.
- High energy style, flexible and adaptive, with ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
- Adaptability to complex client environments and situations.
- Proven track record of effectively planning for and proactively mitigating risks on engagements.
- Quick recognition of critical areas requiring analysis while understanding the big picture.
- Experience synthesizing complex unstructured information rapidly and applying sound business judgment to develop deep insights into possible impacts and solutions.
- Expert written communication skills, self‑directed with preparation of client‑ready documents and presentation development.
- Desire to train, develop, and support staff members of the broader Performance Improvement team.
- Articulate, persuasive communicator adept at handling executive and difficult audiences and adapting style to the audience.
