Job Details Job ID: 5400859 Application Deadline: June 30, 2026 4:30 PM (Pacific Standard Time) Re-Posted: May 23, 2026 7:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: August 31, 2026 Job Purpose Statement: The position of Teacher – Special Education (Learning Specialist-Functional Living Skills) is for developing, providing, and monitoring post‑secondary opportunities for students who experience disabilities ages 18‑21. This includes providing specially designed instruction, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, developing lesson plans, modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments, providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, families, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, on‑site and in the community. Responsibilities Collaborate with school personnel, families, and community agencies to improve student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum. Coordinate all transition activities for special education students on the assigned caseload. Develop, modify, adapt, and implement instruction for students eligible under IDEA, including academics, functional living skills, community access, medical or behavioral protocols, and more. Provide students opportunities to participate in activities based on their interests and preferences concerning post‑secondary goals. Facilitate planning sessions and determine student interests and preferences in educational planning for post‑secondary goals. Assist students and/or their families in collaborating with outside agencies related to transition and post‑secondary goals. Act as a resource for students, families, teachers, and administrators for transition planning, connection to adult agencies, and providing work‑experience opportunities. Monitor direct/indirect supervision of students on job sites, as negotiated with on‑site supervisors. Perform job shadowing when needed for a student or staff member. Coordinate activities associated with assessment and career exploration. Assist in the identification of needs to be included in the Individual Plan for Employment (IPE). Coordinate IPE and IEP transition activities with outside agencies. Coordinate a variety of transition services, including developing work experiences, job shadowing, career exploration, job coaching, and paid employment opportunities consistent with students’ vocational goals. Maintain and update a system for tracking transition activities. Collaborate with staff to provide structured training at school and/or job sites consistent with each student’s vocational or transitional goals. Facilitate and participate in transition planning meetings with eligible students, ages 18‑21. Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment. Coordinate/Collaborate with the Alternative Placement Coordinator regarding post‑secondary outcomes and placement. Collaborate with other personnel to support their work activities. Advocate for students to ensure access to district training opportunities and resources for successful school‑to‑career transition. Participate in meetings to share information and improve skills and knowledge. Confer with teachers, families, or community agency personnel to assist in evaluating student progress and implementing transition objectives. Communicate with the Director/Student Service Administrator, building principals and staff, families, out‑of‑district agencies, and other personnel as needed. Attend training sessions and meetings to stay current on policies, procedures, and job‑training skills. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Facilitate/manage and attend to community agency partnerships such as Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Developmental Disabilities services, brokerage, Social Security, Work Incentives Network, internship staff, job coaches/developers, Youth Transition Specialists, and others. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience Preferred: Prior job‑related experience with students with special needs. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Skills in planning, developing, and implementing curriculum for students with disabilities. Effective communication and collaboration with students, families, and school personnel. Knowledge of instructional theory, best practices, curriculum, state and federal regulations, and district policies related to special education. Abilities to stand, walk for prolonged periods and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, and handling. Adequate hearing, vision, and other sensory capabilities. Leadership skills and ability to coordinate collaboration and transition activities. Second‑language proficiency preferred. Education Required: Master’s Degree. Licenses, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Proper TSPC License; Valid Driver’s License with own transportation and acceptable driving record. Terms of Employment 192 days per year. Salary to be established by collective bargaining agreement ranging from $53,049 to $106,098 per year.
