SY26/27 Elementary Special Education Life Skills Teacher: K-2 Starting Date: Aug 24, 2026 Job Description Positions available: 2, at Woodland Elementary (second location TBD).

POSITION SUMMARY

This teacher will work collaboratively with school personnel in providing, implementing, designing, and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students in a variety of settings. A primary focus is the establishment of a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all students while considering the background and developmental level of the individual student. The teacher is a full member of the building staff and Student Services and will be supervised by the principal in collaboration with the Director of Student Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Oregon teacher’s certificate with appropriate special education endorsement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Effectively works with and responds to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds. Cultivates and models a respectful working and learning environment. Utilizes effective, proactive behavioral management skills in all school settings. Collaboratively leads functional assessments and develops Behavior Support Plans with student‑centered involvement. Utilizes effective instructional strategies and makes data‑based instructional decisions. Adapts or modifies general classroom curriculum to meet individual plans (IEP/504/TAG). Attends Student Services Team meetings and Educational Support Services staff meetings. Provides, implements, designs, and adapts individual and group academic and behavioral programs in all school settings aligning instruction with district and state benchmarks. Adjusts transition curriculum and activities as needed. Works effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations. Collaborates with other school personnel (e.g., Title I, regular education, school psychologists, specialists, classified staff) to meet behavioral and academic needs. Cooperates with team members to accomplish mutually agreed goals. Responds to feedback from colleagues and administrators to improve skills and services. Assists schools in identifying students with disabilities. Maintains ongoing communication with parents, teachers, and Educational Support Services on planning, implementation, and monitoring of programs. Assists administration in implementing policies governing student conduct, developing classroom behavior rules, and maintaining order fairly. Communicates clearly with students and parents/guardians about academic and behavioral progress. Pursues ongoing professional development through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, classes, and other activities. Provides collaborative support when more than one special education teacher is present. Administers assessments, collects, and interprets data to monitor student progress. Manages time to complete required special education paperwork. Monitors student progress across all school settings. Trains and supervises Educational Assistants. Designs instruction, monitors, and provides feedback for Instructional Assistants; is available for problem solving. Manages fiscal components and documentation of program activities, as appropriate. Utilizes technology effectively to manage all components of student programs. Anticipates program needs and coordinates implementation of components. Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Student Services.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position primarily performed indoors; occasional outdoor instruction and supervision required. Possible exposure to bodily fluids, physical injury, or disease. Exposure to bodily harm from student behaviors. Evenings and/or extended work hours often required. May require First Aid/CPR card and serve as Delegated Caregiver or Designated First Aid Provider. May require travel to multiple work sites. Frequent or prolonged standing, walking, and sitting. Frequent and prolonged talking/hearing conversations. Requires accurate sound perception, vision, depth perception, handling and working with materials. May involve occasional lifting of objects weighing 25–50 pounds. May require restraining students.
