Access Services Representative 2 - PRN

Job Summary The Access Services Representative 2 obtains current and accurate demographics and insurance information in order to register patients, verifies insurance benefits, negotiates and collects patient financial responsibilities, actively cross‑trains and works in all areas as assigned, and serves as a mentor and/or trainer for peers. Core Responsibilities Attend Revenue Cycle Training in Temple, TX during the first month of employment. Conduct patient interviews to obtain demographic and financial data for registration, insurance verification, precertification and billing. Understand patient flow processes in each area. Identify process improvement opportunities that promote teamwork while improving revenue cycle functions and the patient experience. Interact on an ongoing basis with other areas and departments to provide appropriate information related to patient delays and schedule changes intra‑departmentally and inter‑departmentally. Verify patient eligibility for insurance coverage and appropriate benefit levels for anticipated services. Calculate and collect patient liability according to financial clearance policies related to existing and/or bad debt accounts. Determine patient liability and advise patients of deposit requirements per policy; negotiate payment arrangements where necessary. Perform cashiering responsibilities according to established policies and procedures; this may constitute the bulk of duties within the department. Assist patients to nursing units by providing directions, personal escort, and/or medical mobility assistance (e.g., wheelchairs) when applicable; appropriately escalates potential service issues to management when necessary. Adhere to compliance regarding order validation, cash policy requirements, government payor requirements, and patient safety requirements for appropriate patient identification. Conduct formal, documented training and serve as a resource to others. Proactively accept new responsibilities identified by leadership and perform revenue cycle duties at multiple areas and locations as assigned. Key Success Factors Two years of healthcare or customer service experience or an equivalent education. Good listening, interpersonal, and communication skills with professional, pleasant, and respectful telephone etiquette. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a highly stressful and emotional environment, including crime, behavioral health, and life‑or‑death situations. High level of empathy and effective communication with patients and family members during traumatic events, while demonstrating exceptional customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities in an effective and organized manner. Excellent data entry, numeric, typing, and computer navigation skills. Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.
