2026 Environmental Police Officer C

Responsibilities Enforce state and federal laws related to natural resources, wetlands, waterways, hunting, fishing, boating, marine fisheries, forests, parks, hazardous waste, water and air pollution. Provide information and assistance to the public regarding fish and wildlife regulation, boat and all‑terrain vehicle regulation and safety, and environmental laws, rules and regulations. Represent the Commonwealth in court or legal proceedings and respond to environmental emergencies. Operate patrol boats, all‑terrain vehicles, and powered watercraft to conduct patrols and enforcement activities. Educate the public on boating, hunting safety, and ethical use of natural resources. Assist the public in registering boats. Conduct patrol and protection, investigation and enforcement, legal procedures, record‑and‑report management, research, planning, reporting, training, professional development, vehicle observation, enforcement, incident command, arrest‑related activities, evidence and property management. Manage internal and external communication, community relations, administration, and personnel supervision. Qualifications Must be employed with the Massachusetts Environmental Police Agency with permanent civil‑service status in the title of Environmental Police Officer A/B. Have completed at least twelve months of employment in the eligible title on a permanent or temporary civil‑service basis in the twelve months immediately preceding the examination date. Have no permanent status in a title higher than Environmental Police Officer C. Demonstrate technical knowledge of relevant job duties, including problem solving, planning, discretion, integrity, ethics, leadership, adaptability, empathy/social welfare, and situational judgment.
