Environmental Protection Specialist (ID: NPSSER-009-003) Location: Atlanta, GA Program: NPS Wage/Hr: $40.00 Hours/Week: 25 Minimum Age: 55 Overview National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has connected experienced workers (ages 55+) with full‑time and part‑time opportunities for over 25 years. This role supports the National Park Service (NPS) through the Experienced Services Program (ESP), providing administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and other professional skills. Qualifications Minimum of 15 years of experience in environmental site restoration or BA/BS Degree in Environmental Science or Civil Engineering Thorough technical knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and standards and how they are applied by federal, state, and local authorities Knowledge of the Clean Water Act, NEPA, Bird Treaty Act, NHPA, and experience with CEs and EAs Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint Duties Coordinates the technical review of proposed actions by interdisciplinary team members (IDT) and is involved in all draft project agreements. Prepares Environmental Assessments (EAs) for actions that require EA‑level NEPA compliance. Reviews scopes of work for inclusion of required mitigation measures. Acts as a point of contact for project managers and contractors to assist in ensuring compliance requirements are met. Ensures NEPA documentation is complete in PEPC and serves as a team member for all DS projects. Park Projects Support Serves as a subject‑matter expert and/or interdisciplinary team member on remediation projects within the Southeast Region. Coordinates technical review of proposed actions by IDT, with involvement in all draft project agreements. IDT reviews include natural resources compliance (Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Clean Water Act, etc.) and cultural resources (Section 106, National Historic Preservation Act, etc.). Overall Program Support Coordinates and prepares Environmental Assessments (EAs) for actions requiring EA‑level NEPA compliance. Prepares categorical exclusion justification and documentation. Prepares decision files for DS projects and reviews scopes of work for required mitigation measures. Assists in coordination and required consultations with state, tribal, and other federal entities. Assists with NEPA contract management and participates in biweekly project calls for DS projects. Attends on‑site meetings for DS projects as appropriate and reviews and updates project descriptions and uploaded files to ensure NEPA documentation is complete in PEPC. Other Serves as a point of contact for project managers and contractors to assist in ensuring compliance requirements are met across all program areas. Required Certifications OSHA Hazwoper 40‑hour health and safety training EPA Asbestos certificate (able to acquire on job) Travel Requirements 5 to 12 trips over the duration of the agreement, including 5‑12 three to five day air travel trips. Health and Safety Considerations May spend time in the field in locations with uneven terrain and surrounding hazards such as dead and dying trees, ticks, rattlesnakes, and temperature extremes. Staff will be provided with safety protocols and may require use of an NPS radio and communications tracking by NPS dispatch. Personal protective equipment such as hard hats may be required and will be provided by the NPS. Physical Requirements Job is primarily sedentary and performed in an office environment. Some field visits may involve brief exposure to arduous climatic conditions (e.g., temps >90 degrees) and sufficient mobility to navigate uneven terrain.
