Senior Accountant - Real Estate & Multi-Entity Operations

Salary Range: $90,000–$100,000, depending on experience, plus eligibility for a discretionary performance-based bonus Position Overview The Senior Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for assigned commercial real estate, operating, investment, and holding entities. This is a highly hands-on position involving general ledger accounting, monthly close, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, accounts payable and receivable, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, experience working in a multi-entity environment, and the ability to independently manage the accounting requirements and deadlines for multiple entities. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Controller, CFO, property management, operational personnel, and external CPAs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage full-cycle accounting for assigned real estate, operating, investment, and holding entities. Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, amortization, and other monthly adjustments. Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures accurately and within established deadlines. Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, general ledgers, and supporting schedules. Prepare and review bank, credit card, debt, escrow, reserve, intercompany, and other balance-sheet reconciliations. Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and ensure all balance-sheet accounts are appropriately supported. Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, cash transfers, allocations, and related-party balances. Perform property-level accounting, including tenant and lease activity, CAM charges, property taxes, insurance, capital expenditures, and loan activity. Manage accounting for operating companies, including revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, equipment, and operating expenses. Review and code vendor invoices, monitor approvals, process payments, maintain vendor records, and assist with W-9 and 1099 reporting. Record cash receipts, apply customer and tenant payments, monitor accounts receivable aging, and assist with collection issues. Prepare budget-to-actual variance reports and provide explanations for significant variances. Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and cash-flow projections. Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for tax returns, audits, lenders, ownership reporting, and external CPAs. Assist with payroll accounting, employee expense reports, credit card activity, and related reconciliations. Support accounting system implementations, process improvements, and documentation of accounting procedures and internal controls. Provide guidance and assistance to other accounting team members as needed. Perform other accounting and financial responsibilities as assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. Minimum of five years of progressive professional accounting experience required. Accounting experience with a commercial real estate company, property management company, or real estate investment firm strongly preferred. Experience accounting for operating companies in addition to real estate entities preferred. Experience working with multiple entities, intercompany transactions, and related-party accounts preferred. Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, general ledger accounting, and monthly close procedures. Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing balance-sheet reconciliations. Technical Skills Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions. Experience with QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online preferred. Experience with Yardi or similar commercial real estate accounting software strongly preferred. Ability to work effectively across multiple accounting systems and data sources. Skills and Attributes Strong technical accounting and problem-solving skills.
