Position Summary Serves as a team leader and quality control engineer in the Bridge Inspection & Management unit of the Bureau of Maintenance, Inspection, and Operations. Under supervision, performs in-depth, routine, special, and emergency inspections using a variety of equipment and tools. Responsibilities Inspects elevated structures over roadways, railroads, and water, as well as tunnels, in confined spaces using a bucket truck, man‑lift, ladder, and snooper in all weather conditions. Prepares bridge condition sketches for thorough documentation. Produces bridge inspection reports per the accepted New York State bridge inspection standards. Identifies and prioritizes potential hazards. Prepares structural and safety flags with all necessary plans, drawings, and technical specifications. Operates an inspection van for fieldwork. Assists the Director of Bridge Inspection in office with bridge inspection‑related work. Might be required to work evenings, nights, and weekends. Performs other related duties. Required Qualifications Candidate must be serving permanently in the title with DOT or be reachable on the DOT promotional list. Valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer. Six (6) years of full‑time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity. Preferred Qualifications Ability to perform inspections in all weather conditions, including nights and weekends. Strong background in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite. Ability to drive city‑owned vehicle. Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License in New York State with no restrictions, required for certain assignments. NY State PE License with a Civil Engineering Degree. Eligibility under the 55‑a Program. Benefits and Opportunities Compensation: $62,407 – $169,806. Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility. Residency Requirement: New York City Residency is not required. Location and Hours Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Ave, Queens, 11001. Hours: 7:30 am – 3:00 pm.
