Payroll Specialist

Location: Costa Mesa, CA
The hourly rate for this position is expected to be between $25.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on geographic location, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
Employment Type: Temporary through end of 2026, covering a leave
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week
Job Summary:
- Support payroll processing for approximately 800 hourly employees
- Audit timecards and new hire records for accuracy and compliance with CA hourly laws
- Assist the payroll analyst with day-to-day tasks and coverage during PTO
- Process high volume of new hires (approximately 150 every two weeks)
- Resolve payroll discrepancies with accuracy and attention to detail
Requirements:
- 1-2 years of payroll experience, including timecard and new hire auditing
- Familiarity with California hourly payroll laws
- Experience with payroll platforms such as Rippling, ADP, Workday, or Paychex is helpful (not required)
- Strong attention to detail
