ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SOCIAL WORK (GENERALIST PRACTICE) THE UNIVERSITY: California State University, East Bay (CSUEB). CSUEB is a comprehensive university serving the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Department of Social Work at CSUEB is grounded in the urban communities of the San Francisco Bay Area. It prepares social work practitioners with a social justice focus and the values, knowledge, and skills needed to build partnerships in multicultural settings. The department educates approximately 250 graduate students in the CSWE-accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) program and 120 undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, which is set to launch in Fall 2025.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION

• Teach and provide curricular leadership in the MSW generalist and advanced generalist practice sequence, with a focus on culturally responsive, community-engaged, and justice-oriented practice.
• Depending on departmental needs, teach across the MSW and BSW curricula, including practice, policy, human behavior, research, capstone, and practicum seminar courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise.
• Engage in teaching, advising, and research, and participate in service at the departmental, college, university, and community levels.
• Prepare to teach in-person, hybrid, and/or fully online courses.
• Fulfill advising responsibilities, assist with administrative and committee work, and take on campus-wide committee duties.

RANK AND SALARY

Assistant Professor. Salary will be determined by educational preparation and experience, subject to budgetary authority. Anticipated salary range: $80,100–$85,848.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT

Fall Semester, 2027.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Hold a Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited institution.
• Have at least two years of full‑time post‑master's social work practice experience.
• Possess a Ph.D. in social work, a D.S.W., or a related doctorate, completed by the effective date of appointment.
• Demonstrate readiness to teach MSW generalist/advanced generalist practice courses.
• Have at least four months (roughly one academic term) of teaching, advising, or mentoring experience with diverse students, including as instructor of record for at least one social work or social science course at the bachelor’s or master’s level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience teaching MSW practice courses, curriculum development for generalist or advanced generalist practice, teaching in hybrid/online/in-person modalities, familiarity with CSWE competency-based education, and scholarship that addresses culturally responsive, community-engaged, and justice-oriented social work practice.
