Job Description

The Material Handler operates and controls packaging equipment, provides comprehensive forklift support to production operations, maintains a clean and organized packaging area, and ensures raw materials are replenished efficiently to support continuous manufacturing flow.

Responsibilities

• Operate and control packaging equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate processing of materials.

• Provide forklift support to production operations, including moving materials, loading, and unloading as required.

• Monitor in-process quality and promptly report observations to production team members to maintain product standards.

• Manage work in progress and effectively multitask to meet production schedules and priorities.

• Maintain the 5S posture of the assigned area by keeping workspaces clean, organized, and free of hazards.

• Operate regular forklifts, roofing forks, and carpet pole lifts safely while observing all company policies and procedures.

• Identify material classifications accurately, including prime, rework, and scrap, and handle each according to guidelines.

• Communicate effectively with packagers and provide coverage for their duties when needed to support team workflow.

• Complete production paperwork accurately, including verifying and recording daily production data.

• Follow written and verbal instructions carefully to perform tasks in accordance with established procedures.

• Unload raw materials from trucks in the production area and stage them appropriately for use.

• Build pallets according to product standards and specifications to ensure safe storage and transport.

• Apply proper procedures for packaging materials to meet quality and safety requirements.

• Participate in cycle counts and inventory-related activities to support accurate stock control.

• Work overtime on short notice when required to meet production demands and deadlines.

• Apply knowledge of environmental policies and job-related work instructions in daily tasks.

• Perform waste disposal in accordance with established work instructions and environmental guidelines.

• Support general material handling, picking, packing, loading, unloading, shipping, receiving, and production activities as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support overall warehouse and manufacturing operations.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in material handling within a production, warehouse, or manufacturing environment.

• Hands-on experience with inventory, picking, packing, loading, unloading, shipping, and receiving activities.

• Ability to operate forklifts safely, including regular forklifts, roofing forks, and carpet pole lifts.

• Forklift certification.

• Safety-conscious mindset with consistent adherence to safety policies and procedures.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

• Capability to manage work in progress and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

• Basic maintenance skills to support equipment and work area upkeep.

• Ability to identify and distinguish material classifications such as prime, rework, and scrap.

• Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or 1–2-year vocational training / associate degree.

• Experience in general labor and production environments.

• Knowledge of environmental policies and job-related work instructions.

• Experience building pallets to product standards and handling packaging processes.

• Comfort working with cycle counts and inventory control procedures.

• Strong communication skills to collaborate with production team members and packagers.

• Attention to detail when completing production paperwork and verifying daily production.

• Ability to maintain an organized work area in line with 5S principles.

Work Environment

This role is based in an indoor industrial manufacturing and warehouse environment that is dusty and not temperature controlled. You will be exposed to varying cold and hot temperatures and may occasionally work outdoors in hot or adverse weather conditions. The setting involves active use of forklifts and material handling equipment, regular interaction with packaging machinery, and physical tasks such as loading, unloading, and pallet building. The schedule follows a Monday through Friday shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering a consistent daytime work pattern.

This is a Contract position based out of Mount Joy, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.45 - $33.45/hr.
