Position Overview

Join us in our mission to address health disparities and enhance our team! The Department of Pediatrics at our organization is on the lookout for a full-time clinical track faculty psychologist specializing in Pediatric Psychology and Behavioral Health. This role involves delivering clinical services and educational support within the interprofessional UVA Health Children's Diabetes Prevention and Fitness Clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver culturally sensitive and evidence-based psychological assessments and treatments for youth at elevated risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, particularly those facing obesity and associated health issues.
• Provide expert consultation to a multidisciplinary team, which includes a nurse practitioner, registered dietitian, physical therapist, and social worker.
• Educate pediatric endocrinology fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students.
• Contribute to research and scholarship focused on pediatric diabetes prevention and weight management.
• Engage in departmental and health system committees, as well as continuing education initiatives.

The Pediatric Psychology and Behavioral Health section offers clinical services within the Department of Pediatrics and UVA Health Children's Hospital. Currently, this section consists of eight pediatric and child clinical psychologists and is poised for significant growth, with plans to nearly double its size in the coming year. This expansion presents an exciting opportunity to join our team. Our psychologists collaborate closely with pediatricians, fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, and a diverse array of allied health professionals. We maintain strong working relationships with community providers and other pediatric subspecialists within the UVA Health System.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a PhD or PsyD (or equivalent) from an APA-accredited program, have completed an APA-accredited internship, and be licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia. Candidates should demonstrate cultural humility and possess skills in interprofessional collaboration within a complex academic medical setting. The new faculty member will be expected to pursue board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology once eligible.
