The Ophthalmic Technician - Specialty 1 independently performs a broad range of advanced ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty procedures. This role demonstrates applied expertise in specialty equipment, complex testing, and procedural workflows, contributing to efficient patient throughput and high-quality clinical outcomes. Specialty focus areas are defined by the department. **CORE JOB FUNCTIONS*** Performs ophthalmic testing, measurements, or specialty‐specific procedures in accordance with training, protocols, and scope of practice.* Prepares patients for diagnostic studies, treatments, or procedures, explaining processes and addressing patient questions.* Obtains and documents patient histories, clinical findings, test results, and procedural data in the electronic medical record.* Operates ophthalmic instruments, imaging systems, or specialty equipment relevant to assigned clinical services.* Assists physicians and care teams with examinations or procedures, including pre‐ and post‐procedure patient support.* Identifies and communicates abnormal findings or technical issues following established escalation protocols.* Ensures exam rooms, procedure areas, and equipment are prepared, maintained, and compliant with safety and infection control standards.* Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assetsThis list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary. **CORE QUALIFICATIONS** Education: High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required Certification and Licensing: BLS from the American Heart AssociationCertified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Optical Coherence Tomographer-Certified (OCT-C) Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.- Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.This is a core job profile description and is not reflective of all duties that may be assigned to a specific position in each individual department.
