About the Role
The Company is in search of an Executive Director to lead its national music education association. The successful candidate will be a seasoned association or nonprofit executive with a strong background in strategic leadership, financial management, and relationship building. This role demands a leader who can unite a complex national network, strengthen trust with state associations, and translate the organization's mission into measurable value and sustainable impact. Key responsibilities include partnering with the National Executive Board to set and achieve organizational goals, enhancing member value, and serving as a visible advocate for music education. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the challenges facing music educators, including teacher shortages, funding pressures, and the evolving landscape of music education. Essential capabilities for this role include substantial leadership experience in a mission-driven enterprise, a proven track record in financial and administrative acumen, and the ability to modernize and innovate within the organization. The Executive Director will be expected to lead a distributed staff team, make difficult decisions with empathy and transparency, and ensure that the association's programs and services are relevant and impactful. While a music education degree is not required, a background in music or arts education, as well as experience in public policy, fundraising, and national advocacy, is preferred. The role is pivotal in shaping the future of music education, and the ideal candidate will be a dynamic, mission-centered leader with the ability to balance the perspectives of diverse stakeholders while keeping the organization focused on its core mission.
