What you can expect to be doing:

Haley Ward is looking for a Field Survey Junior Party Chief is to independently lead a field crew on standard assignments while receiving technical support, guidance, and review from senior Project Managers or Party Chiefs. To support daily operations, including boundary, topographic, and construction staking under the direction of senior staff, requiring review and approval prior to implementing significant field adjustments.

The Field Survey Junior Party Chief is responsible for maintaining and safeguarding precision equipment, work vehicles, and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies. Additionally, the Field Survey Junior Party Chief is required to maintain a high standard of professional conduct and communication with Clients, peers, and staff.

• Oversee that their assigned Survey Technician is completing their essential functions including:
  • Instruments, including Total Stations, Levels, GPS, rods and prisms, are cleaned, calibrated, and are in working order.
  • Check and adjusted plumb rod bubbles
  • Sharpened cutting tools
  • Inspected and recharged equipment batteries
  • Removed and stored instruments and other valuables in the office
  • Prepared equipment and instruments needed for the day.
  • Inventory supplies and restock as needed; identify/obtain-needed supplies required for the day’s work assignments
• Check the general operative condition of assigned vehicles, including gas, oil and tire pressure.
• Together with the assigned Survey Technician, clear underbrush for instrument sighting.
• Together with the assigned Survey Technician, set wooden stakes and iron pins into ground as directed.
• Transport equipment and supplies as needed to operate and measure distance with a total station.
• Obtain readings from standard, direct reading, cut and fill rods.
• Accomplish field assignments in an efficient manner.
• Operate Data Collectors in a manner consistent with Company standards.
• Understanding of regional as-built standard.
• Perform work on boundary and topographic surveys, and construction stakeouts as part of a field crew.
• Collect data on significant site features, locating and recovering property corners and supporting control points.
• Play a role in ensuring all projects are completed according to plan schedules, company policy, and production standards.
• Safeguard all equipment, work vehicles, and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies.
• Overseeing the safety of a survey crew on a single site.
• Mentor, guide and Educate Survey Technicians on proper survey procedures, protocols, requirements, and equipment.
• Identifies potential project discrepancies, grade conflicts, or field adjustments, and immediately escalates them to the Project Manager or Senior Survey Manager for resolution rather than deciding independently.
• Coordinates with clients and site supervisors.
• Understands risk management, liabilities, and exposures.

Working Conditions

This position requires sufficient physical stamina to work long hours outdoors under various field conditions, and to lift and carry 60 pounds. Year-round outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. Work hours are subject to change with overtime work as needed to meet project schedules. Occasional overnight travel may be required.

What you will need to succeed:

• High School Diploma required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying is preferred but not required.
• Three years in land survey field work and demonstrated skills are required.
• CST Level II is preferred but not required.
• Experience in modern survey equipment is required, Trimble/Spectra survey equipment is preferred.
• Experience with Trimble Access, and Trimble Business Center is preferred.
• AutoCAD experience is preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing. Must be fluent in English language.
• Valid driver’s license & reliable transportation required.
• Primary office location is Port St Lucie, FL. May be required to assist on projects for the Melbourne, Stuart, and West Palm Beach offices as needed.
