Senior Staff Nurse (Band 6) - Private Patients Medical Day Unit A Vacancy at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. We are currently looking for enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Band 6 Senior Staff Nurses to join the Private Patient Medical Day Unit (PPMDU) at the Royal Marsden in Chelsea. We are proud of the great care we deliver at the PPMDU and the integrated model of care that exists with our NHS colleagues, this facilitates the innovative research, diagnosis, treatment and care that the Royal Marsden provides to all Patients You will need to be a 1st level registered nurse, Demonstrable previous Oncology experience and experience in the administration of IV medications and chemotherapy is essential. Intravenous cannulation and venepuncture are desirable, however full training will be given. In addition you will possess excellent communication skills, be reliable, enthusiastic and an effective team member committed to providing the highest level of service for our patients. For further information please refer to the job description and personal specification To complete the first level assessment of the patient’s needs to gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of patients undergoing diagnostic tests for suspected cancer as well as those diagnosed with cancer and to develop a positive, realistic and supportive attitude to ensure that the needs of the patient and family are met. This will include: Checking patients’ vital signs, blood results, patient and height and weight. Counterchecking patients’ vital signs, blood results, patient body surface area, chemotherapy prescription and consent before administration of treatment. Educating patients on their treatment protocol such as indications and side effects. Ensuring necessary medication and follow up appointments are obtained. To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients. To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long-term goals or plans. To plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way. To work and support staff in performing venepuncture, cannulation, accessing PICC’s and Portacaths and administration of Intervenous and SACT therapies To support the Ward Manager in the management of the clinical environment as a clinical leader and role model To assume personal accountability for nursing care delivered to a patient in accordance with the NMC code of conduct. To take responsibility for the management and development of a team of staff under the supervision of the Ward Manager Liaise effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary health care team to achieve a coordinated specialist service across all Trust sites. To work as senior nurse resource for patients, families, and staff. To plan, document, deliver and evaluate care plans from admission through to discharge / transfer discussing this with the patient, their family and multi-disciplinary teams and to alert the Sister/Charge Nurse of any changes.
