What You'll Do

As an Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist , you will play a vital role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and vendors are paid promptly. This position supports the financial operations of the organization through payroll processing, accounts payable administration, compliance, and record management.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable

• Review and verify invoices for accuracy, approvals, and required supporting documentation.
• Code invoices to appropriate General Ledger accounts.
• Process and maintain Accounts Payable documentation and records.
• Ensure timely vendor payments while adhering to internal payment schedules.
• Verify tax-exempt status on invoices and provide exemption documentation as needed.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Receive, open, and enter invoices accurately and efficiently.

Payroll Administration

• Collect, calculate, and enter payroll data with a high level of accuracy.
• Maintain payroll records, including direct deposit updates, tax changes, supervisor and department access, wage executions, and child support orders.
• Process payroll adjustments, deductions, and timekeeping information.
• Audit payroll accruals and benefit deductions.
• Assist with maintaining confidential employee payroll files.

General Administrative Support

• Respond to internal and external inquiries via email and voicemail within one business day.
• Maintain organized payroll and accounts payable records.
• Serve as backup support for payroll and accounts payable functions.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills
What We're Looking For
Education

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• Associate degree required, or
• High School diploma/GED with equivalent relevant experience.

Experience & Qualifications

• Experience in payroll, accounting, finance, or accounts payable functions.
• Bachelor's degree holders: no additional experience required.
• Associate degree holders: 1-3 years of related experience required.
• High School diploma/GED holders: 3-5 years of related experience required.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
• Knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger coding, payroll processing, and accounts payable practices.
• Demonstrated ability to process high-volume transactions accurately and efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct discrepancies.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with financial and employee information.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Nonprofit accounting or payroll experience preferred.

Compensation

Starting hourly rate: $22.00 per hour

Compensation is commensurate with experience, education, qualifications, internal equity, and market data. It is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the compensation range.
