Johnson and Johnson is searching for the best talent to join our team as the Senior Director, Solid Tumor Communications and Public Affairs. This is a hybrid role with a preferred location of Raritan, NJ although New Brunswick, NJ or Spring House, PA may be considered.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The Senior Director, Solid Tumor Communications & Public Affairs is accountable for shaping and leading the global communications and public affairs strategy for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine's Solid Tumor portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President, Oncology Communications & Public Affairs, this role serves as the most senior communications counselor to Solid Tumor leadership and is responsible for ensuring clear, consistent, and credible positioning across science, access, policy, and valuesupporting both near?term commercial priorities and long?term portfolio growth.

As a core member of the Oncology Communications leadership team, and as a business partner to commercial and R&D leaders, this role drives strategic alignment across global, regional, and market teams. The Senior Director also works closely with Commercial, R&D, and Enterprise partners to influence the external environment, and strengthen trust with key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive global communications strategy for the Solid Tumor portfolio, aligned with Innovative Medicine business priorities and enterprise standards.
  • Serve as primary strategic communications advisor to Solid Tumor franchise leadership, providing counsel on external positioning, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Shape the global narrative for Solid Tumors across disease areas, marketed products, pipeline assets, and scientific platforms, ensuring clarity, consistency, and differentiation.
  • Oversee communications strategy for priority launches, major data readouts, lifecycle milestones, and key growth brands, in close partnership with local market leads, Launch Communications and Performance Accelerator teams.
  • Partner closely with Public Affairs to drive market?shaping, policy, and advocacy strategies that enable access and improve the operating environment for Solid Tumor medicines.
  • Guide integrated communications planning across media relations, issues management, scientific congresses, disease education campaigns, and executive visibility.
  • Align with regional and market communications leaders to ensure global strategy is effectively adapted, shaped and executed locally, particularly in Top 10 markets.
  • Anticipate, assess, and manage issues and reputational risks affecting the Solid Tumor portfolio, in close coordination with Enterprise and regional teams.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including media, scientific experts, advocacy organizations, and policy influencers within the oncology community.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high?performing Solid Tumor communications team, fostering collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute as a senior leader within the Innovative Medicine Communications & Public Affairs organization, elevating standards, capabilities, and impact across therapeutic areas.

Qualifications External

Education Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in communications, public affairs, or related external engagement roles
  • Significant experience leading communications for complex, global pharmaceutical portfolios or therapeutic areas, preferably in oncology
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted advisor to senior business and scientific leaders
  • Deep understanding of the biopharmaceutical environment, including commercialization, access, policy, and reputational dynamics
  • Proven experience in issues and crisis management within a highly regulated environment
  • Strong strategic thinking, executive presence, and influencing skills in matrixed organizations
  • Experience leading and developing high?performing global teams
  • Ability to integrate enterprise, regional, and market perspectives into cohesive strategies

Preferred:

  • Experience in oncology or adjacent specialty disease areas
  • Experience working closely with Public Affairs, Market Access, and Government Affairs partners
  • Global experience across multiple regions and markets

Other:

  • Up to 2530% travel, domestic and international

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

$178,000.00 - $307,050.00
