HR Business Partner

Job Title HR Business Partner Job Overview The HR Business Partner (HRBP) will partner with university leaders to provide expert guidance on HR policies, guidelines, and practices. The HRBP will collaborate with management to develop talent strategies, ensure compliance with employment laws, resolve employee relations issues, and align HR objectives with the university’s overall goals. The role serves as a liaison between the HR Total Team and university departments, supporting performance management, organizational design, and workforce planning. Job Duties and Responsibilities Offer consultation, facilitation, and resolution strategies to managers for employee‑related workplace issues Interpret, explain, and clarify university policies and employment‑related laws to ensure regulatory compliance and reduce legal risks Resolve employee issues and grievances, conducting unbiased investigations Assist supervisors with performance‑based actions, corrective action, planning, and disciplinary actions Develop and deploy organizational development and performance management procedures Collaborate with specialty areas of the Office of Human Resources to address employee concerns and uphold managerial processes Capture and present workforce data (hiring, engagement, succession planning, retention) to inform HR programs and policies Participate in new employee orientation with HR policy guidance Report on relevant business units and business leaders Participate in developing a solid HR strategic plan for talent acquisition Review HR strategies, policies, and agenda, making recommendations for continuous improvement Make recommendations to assigned university business units Perform other duties and complete projects as assigned or requested Ideal Candidate Profile Build credibility with clients by providing insight and guidance on HR or broader business issues Build strong business relationships and partnerships with line management Act as a point of contact for managers and employees regarding workplace concerns, policy interpretation, and conflict resolution Ensure all HR policies, programs, and practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations Provide consultation on organizational design, structure, and change management to improve effectiveness and achieve business objectives Develop and monitor HR metrics to track progress and measure success of culture, engagement, and talent programs Implement and manage talent development strategies, including performance management, employee engagement, and leadership development Identify training needs and develop programs Demonstrate problem‑solving skills and strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills Minimum Qualifications Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field and at least 5 years of progressive HR experience across people management, strategic planning, and HR practices (or 10 years of progressive HR experience with some college) Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field PHR, SPHR, or other HR certifications 10+ years of HR industry experience, preferably in a growing organization, resolving complex employee relations issues through performance management Benefits Tennessee State University offers a competitive benefits package that includes annual leave (vacation), sick leave, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, flexible benefits plans, and more. #J-18808-Ljbffr Tennessee State University
