Key Responsibilities

• Machine Operation: Set up and operate manual and CNC tool and cutter grinders, surface grinders, and cylindrical grinding equipment. (Note: Manual equipment mastery is central to this role.)
• Tool Reconditioning: Sharpen and other standard carbide and HSS cutting tools to create custom geometries.
• Wheel Selection: Select, dress, and balance appropriate grinding wheels (diamond, CBN).
• Blueprint Interpretation: Analyze engineering blueprints and manufacturing routers to calculate custom tool geometry and recognize basic symbols.
• Shop Math: Apply trigonometry to determine correct clearances, relief angles, and helical pitches.
• Precision Inspection: Self-inspect work utilizing micrometers, calipers, indicators, and optical comparators.

Qualifications

• Experience: 3-5 years of dedicated tool and cutter grinding experience in a precision machine shop.
• The Manual Advantage: strong hands-on experience setting up and operating conventional/manual grinding equipment-specifically Cincinnati models (No. 2, Monoset, etc.)-is highly preferred.
• CNC Familiarity: While modern CNC experience (ANCA, Walter) is valued, the core need is manual cutter grinding expertise .
• Attributes: Sharp spatial awareness, strict attention to fine detail, and reliable attendance for early shifts.

Responsibilities

• Machine Setup & Operation: Set up and operate manual and/or CNC tool and cutter grinders, surface grinders, and cylindrical grinding equipment. (Note: Strong mastery of manual equipment is central to this role.)
• Tool Reconditioning: Sharpen, recondition, and alter standard carbide and high-speed steel (HSS) cutting tools to create custom geometries for complex machining profiles.
• Wheel Selection & Dressing: Select appropriate grinding wheels (eg, diamond, CBN) tailored to tool materials and profiles. Dress and balance wheels to guarantee peak performance.
• Blueprint & Symbol Interpretation: Analyze engineering blueprints and complex internal manufacturing routers to calculate custom tool geometry, recognizing basic symbols when applicable.
• Mathematical Calculations: Apply shop math and trigonometry to independently determine correct clearances, relief angles, rake angles, and helical pitches.
• Precision Inspection: Self-inspect completed work utilizing micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, optical comparators, and laser measuring systems to maintain tight tolerances down to$\\pm0.0001$inches.
• Documentation & Maintenance: Document tool setups for repetitive runs, track tooling lifecycles, and perform routine preventative maintenance on grinding equipment.
