Social Work Clinician / Float - Inpatient Social Work

Location Stanford Health Care, Stanford University Medical Center, California. Overview Social Work Clinician is the entry‑level professional social work position for recent graduates or individuals with professional experience who are not yet licensed as LCSW in California. Employees initially work under close clinical supervision, developing casework and treatment skills; supervision is reduced as competence grows. The role is part of the Social Work Job Family, which includes Social Work Clinician, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Advanced Clinical Social Worker, and requires a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school. Responsibilities Collaborate with interdisciplinary health‑care teams to treat and plan for patients' social and medical needs. Devises, develops and implements treatment plans as necessary. May make a diagnosis as part of a treatment plan. Conduct initial assessment of new patients, evaluating social, emotional and physical needs using social work theories and techniques; interview and evaluate patients and family members. Identify factors that may interfere with obtainment of maximum benefits from treatment. Develop and implement patient management plans, including coordination of referrals to specialty and social services, record progress notes, and provide continuity of care. Help clients cope with environmental and psychological issues of illness by explaining options and treatments and making appropriate referrals. Manage assigned caseload. Prepare and maintain records and make written and oral reports documenting case activity concerning patient care, counseling and therapeutic activities in accordance with policies. Participate in monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of patient care. Provide supportive counseling, grief counseling, crisis intervention and other therapeutic services to assist patients and families coping with symptoms such as illness, moral conflict, acceptance of medical recommendations, and loss of function. Provide education to patients and families around issues related to adaptation to diagnosis, illness, treatment and life situation. Qualifications Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university, OR be within 45 days of completion of MSW requirements with a letter from the Dean confirming good standing. Proof of possession of an MSW degree within 45 days of hire, as a condition of continued employment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Apply theories, principles and practices of medical social work and social services delivery systems in a hospital or medical center setting. Gather data needed to assess needs of patients and families. Manage caseload with confidentiality and decision‑making in emergencies. Provide written case narratives and reports. Apply effective assessment, interviewing and counseling techniques. Apply social work theories, principles and techniques. Use hospital and medical center resources to access and provide patient care needs. Understand patient and family needs, problems, attitudes, and behavior. Compensation Base pay generally starts at $45.94 - $59.73 per hour; final wage is determined by experience, education, specialty and training.
