Job Title: Code Fitter Welder Job Description

The Code Fitter Welder is responsible for fitting and welding code-compliant coils that require 100% X-ray inspection, ensuring all work meets stringent engineering and quality standards. This role involves interpreting blueprints, planning and executing complex layouts, and performing precision welding using GTAW (TIG) and FCAW (Fluxcore) processes. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining accurate production records and documentation.

• Fit and weld code 100% X-ray coils in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
• Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind, and bolt components in position to prepare assemblies for welding.
• Examine workpieces for defects and verify that components meet specifications using straightedges, templates, and measuring tools.
• Measure dimensions of completed products and workpieces to ensure conformance with detailed specifications and tolerances.
• Develop templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layouts, assemblies, and welding operations prior to fabrication.
• Lay out and fit nozzles, supports, and couplings into coils according to blueprints and project requirements.
• Remove rough spots and prepare surfaces by using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers to achieve required finishes.
• Use levels, tapes, protractors, and various tools to ensure accurate alignment, fit-up, and layout of components.
• Maintain and complete all required records and production documentation accurately and on time.
• Organize and prioritize assigned tasks to meet production schedules and quality standards.
• Work independently on assigned projects while maintaining clear communication with supervisors and team members.
• Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while performing welding and fabrication tasks.

• Ability to pass applicable welding tests, including the ability to pass the Code Section 8 welding test on 2" schedule 160 carbon steel, 6G pipe test using GTAW (TIG) all the way out and FCAW (Fluxcore).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant welding and fitting experience and/or training in a metal fabrication environment.
• Proficiency in GTAW (TIG) and FCAW (Fluxcore) welding processes.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings accurately.
• Strong mathematical skills to perform layout calculations and develop templates and models.
• Ability to use and read levels, measuring tapes, protractors, and various hand and power tools.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and documentation requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document work and coordinate with team members.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
• Ability to inspect workpieces for defects and verify conformance to specifications using appropriate measuring tools.
• Ability to safely operate grinders, files, and other preparation tools for finishing and surface preparation.

• Two-year technical degree or vocational certificate in welding is preferred.
• Experience developing templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.
• Experience working with code-regulated welding projects that require 100% X-ray inspection.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layouts, assemblies, and welding operations.
• Experience maintaining detailed production records and documentation.
• Proven ability to organize work efficiently in a busy fabrication environment.
• Comfort working with various measuring and inspection tools in a fabrication shop setting.

This role follows a regular schedule of Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with additional work hours and weekends as needed based on production demands. The position is based in a non-temperature-controlled metal fabrication shop environment that includes loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and metal particles typical of manufacturing facilities. You will work around welding and grinding equipment and are required to wear personal protective equipment at all times, including noise and hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, safety harness as needed, full face grinding shield, welding hood, and OSHA-compliant safety boots or shoes. The environment is hands-on, industrial, and safety-focused, with an emphasis on proper use of tools, equipment, and protective gear.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SAND SPRINGS, OK.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
