Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant supports healthcare and government program engagements by reviewing provider financial information, performing reimbursement calculations, conducting audits, and evaluating compliance with applicable Medicaid and other government program requirements. This role is responsible for supporting all phases of the audit process, preparing clear documentation of findings, and applying relevant accounting, regulatory, and professional standards. Essential Functions and Primary Duties Review Medicaid provider cost reports and related financial information. Analyze healthcare provider financial data for accuracy, reasonableness, and compliance. Perform reimbursement calculations in accordance with applicable Medicaid and government program requirements. Conduct desk reviews and participate in on-site audits as required. Perform all phases of assigned audits, including planning and research, risk assessment, fieldwork, development of findings, and reporting. Conduct research to determine billing and reimbursement compliance with relevant Medicaid, federal, state, and other government program regulations. Review and interpret applicable federal and state policies, regulations, and guidance before and during each audit engagement. Prepare audit workpapers documenting procedures performed, scope, conclusions, and findings. Maintain workpapers in accordance with applicable Medicaid or government program requirements and relevant professional standards, including AICPA standards. Prepare written documentation supporting professional judgments, findings, and recommendations. Gather, organize, analyze, and report financial and operational information accurately. Identify opportunities to improve processes, documentation, and analytical approaches. Maintain complete and accurate electronic documentation of work performed. Protect the security and confidentiality of protected health information and other sensitive information. Manage multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines effectively. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associates in Accounting or a closely related field. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to review, interpret, and apply statutory, regulatory, and policy requirements. Strong organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize competing deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word. Ability to travel based on client and business needs. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Accounting or a related field. CPA or CPA candidate. Internship or professional experience in accounting, auditing, healthcare, reimbursement, or a related field. Experience with healthcare auditing and financial data analysis. Experience reviewing provider cost reports or reimbursement-related financial information. Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, or other government healthcare program requirements. Experience conducting compliance, financial, or operational audits. Knowledge of audit documentation and professional standards, including AICPA standards. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong accounting and financial analysis skills. Ability to evaluate financial records and identify discrepancies, risks, and potential compliance issues. Ability to perform reimbursement calculations accurately. Understanding of audit planning, risk assessment, fieldwork, documentation, and reporting. Strong research and regulatory interpretation skills. Ability to clearly communicate audit findings and financial conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an engagement team. High level of professionalism, confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
