Lead Infrastructure Engineer - Hardware & Systems - Houston

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• At least 5 years of experience building and improving hardware products, with a mechanical or electrical engineering background.
• Strong experience working with OEM, ODM, and JDM manufacturers throughout design, build, and delivery.
• Solid understanding of production rack environments, including networking and compute hardware, power delivery, and cooling; ability to apply thermodynamics in datacenters and represent engineering positions in supplier design reviews.
• Working knowledge of Open Compute and rack standards related to heat rejection and voltage delivery.
• Familiarity with PCIe, Redfish, and OpenBMC.
• Hands-on experience with Linux (Red Hat) servers and Python or strong Bash scripting skills.
• Hands-on experience with the Llama API.
• Experience managing bills of materials (BOMs), interfacing with hardware suppliers, and aligning cross-functional stakeholders to drive decisions and execution.
• Self-directed, pragmatic, detail-oriented approach grounded in engineering rigor, data-backed decisions, and continuous improvement.
• Experience using enterprise-authorized AI tools in infrastructure engineering workflows, with careful output validation and awareness of data sensitivity.
• Ability to review AI-assisted outputs before implementation, escalate uncertainty appropriately, and ensure outcomes meet resiliency, security, and auditability expectations.
• Preferred: Good knowledge of hardware specifications.
• Preferred: Experience with cloud platforms running on physical servers.
• Preferred: Experience building automation and certifying servers for internal cloud.

• Partner with business lines to gather requirements and turn them into end-to-end system designs.
• Improve or replace components that do not meet performance, reliability, or cost targets, and plan and execute legacy platform retirement.
• Apply knowledge of board, server, and rack architectures, including datacenter integration, and support the lifecycle from prototype builds and lab validation through production release.
• Manage day-to-day engagement with OEM, ODM, and JDM partners, maintain technical alignment, and proactively escalate issues.
• Set milestones, acceptance criteria, and delivery expectations, and hold suppliers accountable for schedule, quality, and delivery commitments across board and server development.
• Connect requirements to delivered solutions across hardware and software teams, explaining hardware-level considerations such as PCIe topology, airflow, and liquid cooling in relation to network, operating system, and application needs.
• Use enterprise-authorized AI capabilities in our work environment to support infrastructure analysis and design documentation; validate outputs and handle operational data according to sensitivity and security requirements.
• Apply reuse-first, AI-assisted practices to delivery and automation, identify recurring issues, and validate remediation options while keeping changes traceable, auditable, resilient, and secure.
