The basic purpose of the position is to perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff and to facilitate production.Key ResponsibilitiesSorting and receiving specimens in the departmentPerforms routine instrument maintenance on some equipmentPerforms laboratory tasks of centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts), specimen storage and retrievalPreparing reagents and/or media in the departmentPreparing specimens at workstations for testing (including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking specimens for clots and fibrin, inoculation, slide preparation)Performs QA/QC duties as assignedResolves pending listsFinds missing samplesDecontaminates work areasPerforms weekly radioactive wipe testsMaintains files for department recordsChanges gas cylindersFollows all PPE requirements and all safety regulationsUses the laboratory computer system as well as operates PCsDisposes of biohazardous materialCompletes training and competency checklists as appropriateThis is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities, but rather a general description of the work performed by this positionRequired SkillsMust have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiencyMust be able to retain information once learnedMust interact with other coworkers, internal and external customers with courtesy and respectEducation RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent (required)Medical assistant training helpfulMath and science courses preferredRequired ExperienceNone requiredWork Environment / Physical RequirementsPPE requirements must be followed at all timesAll safety regulations must be observedBiohazardous material handling requiredRadioactive wipe testing performed weeklyOvertime eligibleBenefitsMedical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans401k Retirement FundAbout the ClientThis client is a world-leading provider of diagnostic information services, with laboratory operations serving one in three adult Americans annually and supporting half of the physicians and hospitals across the United States, as well as extending internationally.
