RN - Endoscopy Specialist | ACLS Certified

This role involves collaborating closely with anesthesia providers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care before, during, and after procedures.

General Summary

The Registered Nurse in this position is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. This role covers the intra-operative period and requires direct patient interaction throughout all phases of care. Effective communication with gastroenterology, internal medicine, surgery, and anesthesiology teams is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with National Patient Safety Goals and regulatory standards.
• Review patient charts to ensure documentation accuracy and completeness.
• Provide patient education tailored to individual learning needs and assess understanding.
• Offer consistent verbal reassurance and explanations to patients.
• Identify and respond promptly to physical symptoms and changes in patient condition.
• Demonstrate competency in administering moderate sedation and monitoring cardiac rhythms, recognizing dysrhythmias.
• Apply sound clinical judgment based on knowledge of diseases and patient care requirements.
• Adhere to medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and procedures.
• Promote patient safety, comfort, dignity, and respect by addressing physiological and psychological needs.
• Exhibit flexibility, organization, and teamwork; assist in orienting new staff members.
• Participate in quality assurance and continuing education programs.
• Maintain open communication with nursing and healthcare teams.
• Ensure a safe, clean environment by following infection control protocols and guidelines.
• Maintain and troubleshoot endoscopy instruments, ensuring proper cleaning and disinfection per manufacturer and SGNA standards.

Education

Graduate from an accredited nursing program.

Experience

Preferred: At least one year of acute care nursing experience.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in a Compact State or the state of employment.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
