Technician Helper

This role supports experienced low-voltage technicians by assisting with the installation of cabling systems on commercial and industrial job sites. You will help pull and run cable through ceiling tiles, organize materials, and use hand and power tools while working closely with a lead technician. This position is ideal for an entry-level candidate who is motivated, eager to learn a trade, and comfortable with hands-on physical work in a construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Pull cable and run low-voltage cabling through ceiling tiles and other building structures under the direction of a lead technician.
• Assist with installing low-voltage cabling systems, including data cable, fire alarm, and other related wiring.
• Use hand tools and power tools safely and correctly to support installation and construction activities.
• Lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as needed on the job site.
• Organize, stage, and move materials to ensure the work area remains clean, safe, and efficient.
• Climb ladders and work at various heights to route and secure cabling.
• Perform various helper duties while working with a lead technician, including set-up, tear-down, and basic installation tasks.
• Follow all safety procedures and job site rules, especially when working in commercial construction and industrial facilities.
• Support work on commercial construction job sites, industrial facilities, and existing buildings such as hospitals, schools, data centers, banks, and office buildings.
• Report to the office on the first day for orientation and then travel directly to assigned job sites for daily work.
• Remain flexible and available to work overtime when needed, including weekend shifts and extended hours.
• Commute reliably to job sites within approximately 50 miles of the greater Nashville area, including locations such as Nashville, Smyrna, Murfreesboro, Franklin, and Madison.

Essential Skills

• At least 1+ years of experience using hand tools in a general labor, construction, or similar environment.
• At least 1+ years of construction or wiring experience, or closely related hands-on work.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.
• Comfort working with ladders, ceiling spaces, and other elevated areas.
• Basic experience using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Valid drivers license and reliable personal vehicle for commuting to various job sites; ability to drive to locations and not rely on ride-share or drop-off.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed, including weekend shifts and extended hours.
• Openness to commuting within approximately 50 miles of Nashville, including surrounding areas such as Smyrna, Murfreesboro, Franklin, and Madison.
• Motivated, entry-level mindset with a strong desire to learn the low-voltage trade.
• Comfort working in a construction or industrial setting, including dirty or physically demanding environments.
• Ability to follow instructions from a lead technician and work effectively as part of a field installation team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with low-voltage cabling is a plus.
• Exposure to or experience with cable pulling, data cable installation, fire alarm wiring, or other low-voltage systems is beneficial.
• Any trade school, vocational training, or technical certification related to electrical, low-voltage, construction, or a similar field is a strong plus.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment or with machine operation is helpful.
• Certification as required for specific projects or systems is advantageous.
• Interest in building a long-term career in the low-voltage industry and progressing into lead or supervisory roles over time.

Work Environment

Work takes place on a variety of job sites, including commercial construction projects, industrial facilities, and existing commercial buildings such as hospitals, schools, data centers, banks, and office buildings. All sites for this role will be vacant, and work will not involve live wire. The current opening focuses on a weekend shift at an industrial facility in Smyrna, TN, which is described as a dirty and more physically demanding environment than traditional helper roles. The schedule offers flexibility: Friday 7:00 am4:00 pm (optional, straight-time pay), Saturday 7:00 am6:00 pm (mandatory, overtime pay), Sunday 7:00 am6:00 pm (mandatory, overtime pay), and Monday 7:00 am4:00 pm (optional, straight-time pay). A typical week can range from working only Saturday and Sunday to working Friday through Monday, with corresponding increases in hours and earnings. Employees must be open to commuting throughout the greater Nashville area, including locations such as Nashville, Smyrna, Murfreesboro, Franklin, and Madison. On the first day, employees report to the office; afterward, they travel directly to job sites. The work environment is physically intensive, involves frequent use of ladders and tools, and requires appropriate work attire suitable for construction and industrial settings.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $21.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
