About the Role The COOL Company is seeking an experienced, hands‑on Assistant Controller to help lead our accounting and financial reporting function as the organization continues to scale. Reporting to the CFO, the Assistant Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, support the monthly close and consolidated financial reporting process, lead and develop members of the accounting team, and help strengthen the Company's financial systems, processes, and controls. The ideal candidate combines strong U.S. GAAP and technical accounting expertise with proven leadership capabilities and experience operating in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment. This individual should be comfortable working across multiple entities and currencies and have the financial acumen to support financial analysis, forecasting, and key business metrics. We are looking for a modern, technology‑oriented finance professional who combines strong accounting fundamentals with a continuous‑improvement mindset and an interest in using systems, automation, and AI to build a more scalable finance organization. This is a hands‑on role. The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between reviewing consolidated financial results, resolving technical accounting matters, managing the close, developing team members, improving processes, and working directly in the underlying details when necessar Responsibilities and Duties Accounting & Financial Reporting Lead day‑to‑day accounting operations and support a timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close. Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Oversee accounting across multiple legal entities, business units, and currencies. Manage multi‑entity consolidation and foreign currency accounting, including transaction remeasurement, balance sheet translation, intercompany activity, and related foreign exchange gains and losses. Oversee and review balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and other close activities. Oversee revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and other core accounting functions. Support appropriate accounting treatment and documentation for new, unusual, or complex business transactions. Maintain and continuously improve the Company’s chart of accounts, accounting policies, close procedures, and financial reporting processes. Support annual audit and tax activities and work directly with external auditors, tax professionals, and other advisors. Help maintain and strengthen an effective internal control environment appropriate for a growing organization. Ensure financial reporting is accurate, consistent, appropriately documented, and delivered on a timely basis. Leadership & Team Development Provide day‑to‑day leadership, coaching, and development to members of the accounting and finance team. Establish clear ownership, accountability, and performance expectations. Review the work of team members while remaining willing to work directly in the details when necessary. Help develop team capabilities and create opportunities for professional growth. Build scalable processes while maintaining the flexibility required in a fast‑paced organization. Partner effectively with Sales, Operations, HR, Technology, and other business functions. Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Financial Planning & Business Analytics Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. Support FP&A analyses, including budget-to-actual reporting, variance analysis, revenue and margin analysis, and operating expense management. Help develop, maintain, and monitor key financial and operating metrics. Assist in translating financial results into meaningful insights for senior leadership. Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities and proactively communicate findings to the CFO. Support scenario modeling and analyses related to strategic and operational business decisions. Help ensure consistency between accounting results, management reporting, forecasts, and operating metrics. Develop a strong understanding of the underlying drivers of the business rather than focusing solely on historical accounting results. Systems, Processes & Scalability Continuously improve financial processes, systems, automation, and reporting. Help ensure the finance infrastructure can support increasing transaction volume, geographic expansion, new products, and organizational growth. Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes, improve data quality, strengthen controls, and increase efficiency. Evaluate opportunities to utilize AI-enabled tools and automation to improve finance and accounting efficiency, accuracy, reporting, and insight. Participate in and potentially lead ERP implementation, optimization, integration, and enhancement projects. Partner with internal teams and external providers on financial system architecture, data flows, and integrations. Improve the availability, consistency, and reliability of financial and operational data. Help establish scalable financial policies and procedures without creating unnecessary bureaucracy. Qualifications 7–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including meaningful experience in a senior accounting, accounting manager, or Assistant Controller-level role. CPA preferred. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Demonstrated experience with multi-entity consolidation and foreign currency accounting. Experience working in a startup, high‑growth, or similarly fast‑paced environment. Proven experience leading, developing, and managing accounting or finance team members. Experience managing or playing a significant leadership role in the monthly close and consolidated financial reporting process. Strong understanding of financial controls, audit requirements, and accounting policies. Ability to support and contribute to FP&A, financial metrics, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Strong Excel, financial systems, and data‑analysis capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to both financial and non‑financial stakeholders. Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develop practical solutions, and drive projects through completion. A hands‑on mindset and willingness to work directly in the details when necessary. Professional Competencies Experience with multi-entity consolidations, intercompany accounting, FX remeasurement and translation, and international operations Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and demonstrated technical accounting capabilities Proven ability to lead, coach, develop, and hold accounting team members accountable Ability to move beyond accounting results and understand variance analysis, margins, forecasts, KPIs, and underlying business drivers. Strong ERP capabilities and willingness to use automation, integrations, data tools, and AI to improve Finance.
