Human Resources Assistant

United States Attorneys' Offices

Overview The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is responsible for enforcing federal and district criminal laws, representing the government in civil litigation, and enhancing public safety through coordinated law enforcement efforts. The office seeks a Human Resources Assistant to support staffing, classification, personnel processing, and office automation. Responsibilities Perform human resources assistance duties in staffing, classification, quality control, and personnel actions. Utilize the Empower HR (HER) system to process a variety of personnel actions, including unusual assignments or details to state governments, foreign countries, and student employment programs. Generate written documents and use advanced office automation software, including word processing, database management, and spreadsheets. Provide technical assistance and respond to inquiries regarding employee benefits, staffing procedures, and other HR programs. Requirements Must be a United States Citizen or National. Male applicants born after 12/31/59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service. All federal employees must have salary payments made by direct deposit. Initial appointment is conditioned on satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax, and drug testing. A probationary period may be required. Conditional offers require completion of Optional Form 306 and certification of application information. Submit resume and supporting documents; meet all qualifications by the closing date. Additional selections may be made using this announcement. Qualifications Minimum qualifications: Demonstrable experience and education that meet the

GS‑05

or GS‑06 grade level. GS‑05 At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑04 level performing at least two of the three duties listed: Providing assistance/answering HR questions. Using electronic HR tools to process routine personnel actions. Conducting basic research to resolve errors. OR four years of education above high school applicable to business, secretarial or technical fields. OR a combination of education and experience totalling at least 100% when percentages are computed as described.

GS‑06

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑05 level performing at least three of the four duties listed: Reviewing personnel actions to determine staffing and placement. Screening applications for minimum qualifications. Processing personnel actions using automated HR systems. Providing technical assistance regarding employee benefits, staffing procedures, or other HR services. Additional Information Relocation expenses will not be authorized. A background investigation is required for clearance. Displaced federal employees may receive priority through ICTAP or CTAP if eligible. Reasonable accommodation requests for the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments should be submitted in advance.
