Position Details Title: Building Inspector Classification: DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE I, DIVISION OF CODES AND STANDARDS (NON-PEACE OFF) Salary Range: $6,308.00 – $7,825.00 (minimum salary for new state candidates) Location: Sutter County (covers Sutter, Yuba and surrounding counties) Telework: In Office Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Job Summary Under the direction of the Codes and Standards Administrator I (CSA I) and with guidance from a lead District Representative II (DR II), the Building Inspector schedules and conducts inspections to enforce the California Health and Safety Codes and applicable state and federal regulations within an assigned geographic area. The incumbent writes inspection reports and communicates findings to relevant stakeholders. Responsibilities Schedule and perform inspections of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with health and safety codes. Document inspection findings in detailed reports and recommend corrective actions. Work cooperatively with other housing and building agencies and local officials. Maintain accurate records of inspections, permits issued, and follow‑up actions. Respond to inquiries and provide guidance on code compliance to property owners and developers. Special Requirements Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record; CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements or restrictions must be provided. Background investigation clearance prior to employment. Enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program; maintain a valid CDL as a condition of employment. Physical ability to climb roofs, crawl on hands and knees under homes, climb ladders, bend, stoop, walk, and drive for extended periods. Verified residence within 50 miles of the assigned area. Training and Development assignment candidates may also be considered.
