Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of PCU RN experience License: Active Registered Nurse License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: - EKG competency exam must be passed prior to arrival - Skills in titrating cardiac drips, insulin drips, and vasopressors Description: We are seeking a Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit. The unit consists of 24-25 beds dedicated to cardiac stepdown patients. Patient types include those recovering from CABG, lung surgery, PCI, and AICD placement. There is also a medical stepdown overflow covering respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, and sepsis. The nurse will be assigned to a home unit during orientation based on experience level. Patient ratios are typically 1:3-4. Support on the unit includes nursing assistants, cardiac rehab technicians, and a unit secretary during the day. Charge nurses may have patient assignments. A resource nurse is available during designated hours. Charting is done through the Meditech Expanse system using Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing. Weekend rotations involve working every other weekend. The schedule is typically four days one week and three days the next. Travelers may float to other units as needed. Preference is given to candidates with LVAD certification, particularly for cardiac stepdown. The culture on the unit is diverse and traveler-friendly. Scrub color is pewter; t-shirts must be gray, white, or black. Badges must be worn in full view above the waist at all times.
